Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Artsites presented traditional Punjabi folk songs and dance, which captivated the audience at Ravindra Convention Centre in the city on Sunday. They included bhangra and boliyaan giddha.
Prabhjot Kaur and troupe from Chandigarh presented bhangra and boliyaan giddha while Harleen Singh Group from Delhi presented Punjabi folk songs that won a huge round of applause from the audience who were present in good numbers.
It was part of an event, Mela Teeyan Da, organised by World Punjabi Association Organization Bhopal unit and Punjabi Sahitya Akademi of Madhya Pradesh Government.
Bhopal: Despite Ban, E-Rickshaws Still Plying On VIP RoutesPunjabi poems were recited. Women participated in henna competition, folk costume display and traditional games. Kids zone was arranged for the entertainment of children.
Seven Punjabi food stalls were set up where delicious dishes like makki di roti - saroyo da saag, chhole bhature, jalebi, lassi were served. Traditional Punjabi clothes, jewellery, decorative items and handicrafts were displayed at crafts fair.
“The event was not only a symbol of our cultural heritage but also an effort to keep the next generation connected to its roots,” said Inderjit Khanuja, director, Punjabi Sahitya Akademi, adding, “our aim is to organise the event every year on a larger scale so that people living in Bhopal and surrounding areas remain connected to Punjabi culture.”
