Mumbai: Suburban commuters on Mumbai's Harbour Line faced significant delays on Friday evening following a point failure near Goregaon station. The issue, which was reported at approximately 6:18 pm, affected both Up and Down Harbour Line services, resulting in delays of up to 15 minutes.
According to railway officials, the technical fault was resolved by 7:10 pm. However, the cascading effect of the disruption led to continued delays in train operations between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Goregaon well into the night.
“While the technical snag was attended within a hour, the backlog of train traffic caused by the halt in services led to a ripple effect on the service s of the section” said a senior railway official.
Hundreds of office-goers and evening commuters were left stranded at key stations including Andheri and Bandra as trains ran behind schedule and platforms remained overcrowded.
