Donald Trumpand Vladimir Putin met last week as the eyes of the world watched the red carpets, press conferences and photo ops on the Alaskan military base, but the real power came from someone sitting thousands of miles away.
Trump's presidency has been embroiled in scandals that have slowly torn down the billionaires legacy but sources claim his wife Melania has quietly tried to save his reputation. Trump has constantly shocked the world with his divisive policies and shocking comments, but cosying up to dictator Putin has been one of his most controversial moves.
While the American happily shook the despot's hand and referred to him as 'Vladimir' his wife had a serious message to send the warmonger.

In a private room away from the media, the two leader sat down for talks but Trump also handed the dictator a letter from Melania. The First Lady, sat at herNew York home over 4,000 miles away from the Alaska summit, wrote directly to evil Putin urging him to think about children suffering during his illegal invasion.
A source close to Trump, speaking to the MailOnline, said: "The cameras were fixated on everything the two men did in public. But the real soft power move came in private, from someone who wasn't there. And that was the First Lady."
This insider added that Putin was reportedly impressed by Melania's letter and political statement. The source said: "President Putin opened the envelope and read the letter right there, before the talks began. You could tell he was impressed and he said as much. It was a diplomatic masterstroke."

Melania's letter said: "Every child shares the same quiet dreams in their heart, whether born randomly into a nation’s rustic countryside or a magnificent city-center. They dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger.
"As parents, it is our duty to nurture the next generation’s hope. As leaders, the responsibility to sustain our children extends beyond the comfort of a few. Undeniably, we must strive to paint a dignity-filled world for all—so that every soul may wake to peace, and so that the future itself is perfectly guarded."
Although Melania mentioned children in her "peace letter" and alluded to the war she did not directly mention Putin's illegal invasion while addressing Mad Vlad.
The letter added: "A simple yet profound concept, Mr. Putin, as I am sure you agree, is that each generation’s descendants begin their lives with a purity—an innocence which stands above geography, government, and ideology."
Melania's "diplomatic move" was returned by another president's wife just a few days later.Volodomyr Zelensky handed Trump a letter from his wife Olena to pass onto Melania. This letter was not made public but Olena reportedly thanked the First Lady for focusing on children impacted by the horror war.
A socialite close to Melania, Toni Holt Kramer, claimed the First Lady's attitude to her husband and his political ambitions changed after his assassination attempt.
Kramer said: "People have always underestimated Melania because she's the opposite of her husband. He loves to be in the public eye, loves being the centre of attention. Melania isn't shy but she's a private person."
On the assassination attempt, the socialite added: "Everything changed in that moment, how could it not? The president has become very religious. He believes he was saved for a reason. It profoundly affected Melania."
The First Lady reportedly wants her husband to go down in history as a "peacemaker" and is using his second term to do this.
