Woman, 33, found dead at UK beauty spot named after major rescue operation

Police have issued a major update after a woman was pulled from a reservoir at a UK beauty spot.

Kimberley Johnson, 33, has been identified as the victim of the tragedy which happened on Sunday. Emergency services received reports that a woman was seen "getting into difficulty" in Strinesdale Reservoir at around 4pm.

A rescue and search operation was launched which included the fire service's specialist water incident unit team. The woman's body was located and recovered hours later at around 6.25pm.

A cordon was set up at the scene, reports Manchester Evening News. The beauty spot features reservoirs, woodlands and meadows surrounded by farmland. Strinesdale is home to a large range of local wildlife and is home to several fishing spots.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police issued an update and said: "Emergency services responded to an incident at Strinesdale Reservoir at around 4:50pm yesterday (Sunday 17 August 2025) after reports of a woman getting into difficulty in the water. Sadly, the body of a woman was recovered. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death."

No further details about the woman or the circumstances have yet been disclosed.
