A SpiceJet Q400 aircraft developed a snag on Friday when one of its outer wheels fell off while taking off from Kandla airport. The plane was about to depart for Mumbai with 75 passengers on board.
A full emergency was declared at the Mumbai airport on Thursday afternoon after a SpiceJet flight coming from Kandla in Gujarat to Mumbai was reported missing a front wheel while landing.
What did SpiceJet say in its statement?
An airline spokesperson said the plane landed safely in Mumbai and none of the passengers were injured. A SpiceJet spokesperson said, "On September 12, an outer wheel of a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft flying from Kandla to Mumbai was found on the runway after take-off. The aircraft continued its journey to Mumbai and landed safely. After a smooth landing, the aircraft reached the terminal on its own power and all passengers disembarked normally."
The wheel came off as soon as it took off
According to airport sources and AOCC (Airport Operations Control Centre), the front landing gear wheel of the aircraft disappeared mid-air, following which emergency protocols were activated. Before landing, fuel was dropped on the aircraft.
Despite the critical situation, the plane landed safely and reached the terminal on its own and all passengers disembarked normally. There were no casualties reported.
