Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was shot dead in Hackney in the early hours of the morning. Metropolitan Police confirmed the victim, 45, was found on Dynevor Road with gunshot injuries. Emergency services were called at 12.18am and pronounced him dead at the scene. Stoke Newington High Street remains closed from Amhurst Road to Kynaston Avenue, with officers stationed near Sainsbury's and Stoke Newington Methodist Church. Motorists travelling towards Dlaston and Finsbury park are expected to have their journeys impacted. Traffic is reportedly building on Rectory Road, adjacent to the high street, as per MyLondon.
For those taking public transport, the 67, 76, 149, 243 and 276 buses are currently on diversion. Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke, who leads policing for the area, said: "Our team of detectives and forensic specialists are working at pace to establish the full circumstances that led to the tragic death of this man. We understand this incident will cause concern within the Stoke Newington community, however we do believe this to be an isolated incident at this stage of the investigation with no wider risk to the general public."
