Michael McIntyre's The Wheel made its return to BBC on Saturday evening, with contestant Sally celebrating after scooping a life-changing sum of money. The lollipop lady had previously resided in Southampton, where she worked as a flight attendant before relocating to the North East.
Sally was devastatingly diagnosed with lung cancer, with her friends rallying round to provide support during her treatment. She received the all-clear earlier this year and intends to use her prize money to show appreciation to her friends. Nevertheless, Sally never imagined she would secure a place on the programme, let alone claim £110,000, reports Chronicle Live.
She revealed: "It was a very on the spur moment decision. I've seen Michael live in Newcastle and I thought, 'Why not?' Never in my wildest dreams expecting to get on.
"[It was] absolutely brilliant from start to finish. We were so well looked after. All the crew, all the production team, everybody was so friendly. They looked after us, made sure we were alright, explained everything that was going to happen, and really supported us, it was just such good fun."
For the crucial final question, Sally was paired with former rugby player and Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler.
Yet Sally revealed Joe was so anxious he informed host Michael he didn't want the burden of helping answer the decisive question.
Looking back on awaiting the result, Sally commented: "It didn't really sink in. When I've actually cleared the wheel, and then it was that final thing, I just thought I'm only here once.
"And then when you're when you're waiting for the answer it seems like a lifetime. And I can't actually remember that moment. I can remember it being really revealed but the lead up to it, I really can't remember."
Unfortunately, Sally is now residing in Gateshead and couldn't tune in alongside her mates in Southampton, but she's keen to use her prize money to show appreciation for their unwavering support.
Sally revealed: "I don't think I would have got through it so well without the support of those friends.
"I would really like to treat them as a way of saying thank you. I haven't decided quite how to do it but just to say thank you."
Sally mentioned that she and her partner Mark are also planning to convert a van into a camper van.
Nevertheless, they haven't purchased the vehicle yet. "We've got all the stuff we just need the van!" she revealed.
"So some of it will go towards that and we can go off on our adventures."
Since the programme aired, Sally couldn't view it with her mates but cherishes wonderful recollections of her stint on the programme.
"The whole experience from the auditioning to going down on the train to meeting everybody, I had such lovely contestants with me as well. We're all still friends," she explained. "The whole experience was lovely."
