Jeremy Clarkson issues perfect reply as fan asks if Farmer's Dog pub can open early

Propelled to fame by the hit series Clarkson's Farm, the Farmer's Dog pub has become a must-visit attraction in West Oxfordshire. Eager fans of the show often plan a day out to Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat farm and then pop over to his boozer for a refreshing pint.

Formerly The Windmill, Clarkson snapped up the pub for less than £1 million in June 2024 and promptly rebranded it, tying it closely to his successful Amazon Prime series. Despite facing several challenges since opening, the establishment is now bustling with patrons from across the nation.

On Saturday (July 19), a fan tagged the 65-year old ex-Top Gear host on social media, enquiring: "Can you open your pub for me about six hours earlier on Monday please? I was gonna visit, but didn't realise you don't open till 5."

Jeremy kindly replied: "Mondays is when our brilliant staff catch their breath." Indeed, the Farmer's Dog welcomes guests from 12pm to 11pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and until 10:30pm on Sundays.

Appreciative of the rationale behind the schedule, the fan responded: "Completely understandable. We'll be back another time to visit! Loving the Riverside festival at the mo!"

At the Farmer's Dog, Clarkson's own beverage label, Hawkstone, takes pride of place among an array of lagers, IPAs, and ciders on the menu.

The food menu, meanwhile, boasts traditional British fare, including sausage and mash, gammon with bubble and squeak, Lancashire hotpot, steak pie, and a scrumptious vegetable and cheddar crumble.

Expanding its horizons, the pub has introduced The Tent for an outdoor dining experience, whilst the establishment takes pride in its own butchery, Hop and Chops, purveying "the finest British-reared and farmed meat".

Additionally, the on-site Farmer's Puppy offers a bar and kitchen that serves a "British farmed and sourced selection of food and drinks", and patrons can also explore the Diddly Squat farm shop at the same venue.

Its website proclaims: "Diddly Squat Farm Shop was Jeremy and Lisa [Hogan, girlfriend]'s brainchild after realising that potatoes did indeed grow well on their farm and they had accidentally produced 40 tonnes of them.

"Get the best of the farm and take it home with you. Whether that's a bottle of Bee Juice Whiskey or some unbelievable blackberry jam."

Earlier this year, Clarkson declared his current venture, the Farmer's Dog, which now employs nearly 150 staff, to be his final business endeavour.

In conversation with The Times, he stated: "I'm done with business now. I am not starting another business as long as I live. I don't understand it and am not motivated by money. I just want a good craic."
