
Ronnie Rondell Jr. has died at the age of 88. The Hollywood stuntman is best known for his work on films such as Twister, How the West Was Won, Ice Station Zebra, and TV shows such as Charlie's Angels. He also famously portrayed the businessman on fire on the cover of Pink Floyd's 1975 album, Wish You Were Here. His family confirmed the star's death and said that he died on Tuesday at a senior living facility in Osage Beach, Missouri. During his television career, Rondell Jr. spent three years standing in for Robert Blake on the 1975-78 hit ABC series Baretta.
He also worked on successful shows such as The Rookies, S.W.A.T., Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, Dynasty, Vegas, Hart to Hart, and T.J. Hooker. Ronnie also put his physical body on the line as a stuntman in Grand Prix, Diamonds Are Forever, Blazing Saddles, Hooper, and Against All Odds.
Fans have already started to pay tribute to the Hollywood stuntman on social media. One person said on X: "RIP: Hollywood stuntman Ronnie Rondell Jr. passes away at 88. He performed in classics like The Matrix Reloaded, Twister & How the West Was Won. A legend behind the scenes."
Another also said: "Ronnie Rondell Jr., legendary stuntman and the man on fire on Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here cover, has passed at 88. From Hollywood sets to iconic album art, his daring spirit lit up culture in unforgettable ways."
A third also commented on X: "#RIP Ronnie Rondell Jr. The stuntman fell from a burning pole in 'Kings of the Sun' and was set on fire for Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here.' "You never told anyone you were hurt," he said, "because they always had another guy that could fit the clothes.""
Stunts Unlimited posted on Instagram an emotional tribute, penning: "Our hearts are heavy with the loss of the last of Stunts Unlimited's 3 esteemed founding fathers, Ronnie Rondell. In a class all his own, Ronnie was a generous mentor whose talents set the bar for every aspiring stunt person.
"He was deeply respected, admired and loved. Ronnie was not just a legend, he was legendary and will be deeply missed. The family requests that we all respect their privacy at this time and hold off on phone calls or posts until they are able to share details for honoring his life and legacy."
