With parts of the UK expected to be bathed in sunshine and temperatures up to 25C this weekend and summer officially commencing next week, now might just be the time to invest in a new fan. There are plenty of high-end options out there, promising to keep you cool but also retailing for upwards of £100. Take the ; a highly rated tabletop, moveable fan, but it costs almost £150 when full price.
However, if you're in the market for something similar but don't fancy splurging £100, there's a similar tabletop fan on Argos for a cut of the price. The if you use the code RED20, meaning you'll pay just £44 instead of £55.
Though the Philips desk fan doesn't have all of the same features as the Shark model, it's a similar compact size at a more affordable price, and it will ultimately keep you cool when temperatures rise. Argos isn't the only place to buy the Philips 2000 Series Desk fan; you can also buy it on for the same price or directly from for slightly more at £44.99.
This fan measures 37.5cm in height, 25.9cm in width and 25.9cm in diameter, with an integrated handle and stand. We would always advise checking the measurements work for your space before purchasing. For example, some shoppers report that they have put it on their bedside table to keep them cool at night, whereas others have said it was a little large for them to do the same.
At 2.3kg, it's light enough to move easily from room to room. One shopper, who left a review on the Philips website, also noted that the small size means it is "ideal to take with you on vacation".
Despite its size, the brand says it has long-range airflow, which it claims means you can feel cool air from up to 25 metres away. It is described as having three speed settings, an adjustable tilt, and the ability to rotate it. One user review on the Philips website said the "rotate function" gave a "fresh breeze throughout the room".
Another shopper added: "Despite its compact size, this fan provides impressive cooling, even at long distances."
However, one of the main things multiple users have commented on is how quiet the fan is when turned on.
Fans can be noisy, which makes them a bit of a pain to have on in the bedroom, but Philips claims that it's as low as 19dB(A), which is what is usually classed as "whisper quiet." The brand also describes it as having a sleep mode that gradually decreases the fan speed to the lowest setting over 30 minutes, which is great if you turn it on as you get into bed.
An Argos shopper who reviewed the fan said: "Can't hear it at all on Low. Very impressed."
Another added: "After looking at more expensive fans I decided to go for this Phillips fan as it has a mode on it for being really quiet, I have been super impressed because we have it on all night as it's so quiet it doesn't disturb your sleep and it's too noisy where we live to have the window open in the summer definitely recommend this as it's a really good price."
In addition to the sleep mode, the fan also has what is described as a natural breeze mode that alternates between high and low.

Shoppers who've already bought the Philips 2000 series fan have raved about its performance. One shopper said: "I bought this fan two weeks ago. It has kept me nice and cool during these hot nights. Would highly recommend."
However, one shopper did have an issue with the size of the fan, stating it was larger than they anticipated. They said: "So, first impressions of this are that it is quite a beast! It's a lot bigger than I expected - when something is described as a 'table fan', I imagined something small and portable. This looks like a searchlight, and is pretty hefty!"
