Trent Alexander-Arnold struggled to hold back tears as he was consoled by his team-mates on the pitch during a final game for Liverpool. The full-back, who came through the academy and went on to make over 250 appearances for his boyhood club, is leaving at the end of the season on a free transfer.
He is expected to join Real Madrid and link up with England colleague Jude Bellingham, but not before bidding an emotional farewell to the team he has won every trophy possible with. He received a much more positive reception from the Anfield crowd than his previous appearance, being applauded by the Liverpool faithful as he entered the pitch as a half-time substitution.
Alexander-Arnold created several chances in the second half before Mohamed Salah equalised, cancelling out Ismaila Sarr's first-half opener, ending the season with a 1-1 draw to FA Cup winners Crystal Palace.
Once the full-time whistle blew, cameras immediately panned to Alexander-Arnold as he took in the iconic Anfield ground and showed his emotion, choking back tears moments after his last game for the club ended.
He was consoled by Harvey Elliott, who gave Alexander-Arnold a big hug and offered some words of encouragement, before Luis Diaz also came over to embrace the departing defender.
