BJP gave financial support to ZPM in '23 assembly polls: MPYCC

Aizawl: Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) on Saturday alleged that BJP ministers and party leaders at the Centre have revealed that the saffron party had given financial help to the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) during election campaign in 2023 state assembly polls.

A press statement issued by the MPYCC said this fact is also not being denied by the state BJP leaders. "After signing an understanding to have friendly relation with the saffron party, candidates of the ZPM party had huge amount of money a few days before polling," the press statement said.

It said the BJP stopped supporting the then ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) during 2023 assembly polls though the MNF is a constituent of the BJP-led NDA and changed its support to the ZPM. In exchange of financial help to the ZPM, the BJP expected one of the two elected BJP legislators to be given a ministerial berth, the statement said, adding the central govt virtually stopped developmental fund as the ZPM dares not form a govt with the two BJP legislators.

The MPYCC also accused CM Lalduhoma of promising earlier that a minister will keep only one vehicle and the CM will not have a portfolio but will supervise all the works of the ministers. "All these promises become false as the ZPM ministers are keeping more vehicles... and the CM not only holds lucrative departments but confiscated the taxation department from a minister by amalgamating the department with his finance portfolio," they said.
