It was a rainy race at the Silverstone Circuit on Sunday, yet Lando Norris went on to win the British Grand Prix. The McLaren driver was excited for his home race and managed to beat the other Britons to seal his fourth win of the season. He was followed by teammate Oscar Piastri in second position and an unexpected occupant in third. The biggest star of the evening was Kick Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg , who secured his first-ever podium in his 239th race.
British Grand Prix 2025 highlights
Oscar Piastri was handed a 10-second time penalty for a Safety Car infringement during the race but still managed to grab second place on the podium. Lewis Hamilton had shown promise with his homecoming win in FP1 and had hope on Sunday as well, but he once again finished one position short of the podium, in fourth place.
Nico Hulkenberg’s podium comes just days before he celebrates his 38th birthday. The Kick Sauber driver said on his maiden podium win, “It's been a long time coming, hasn't it?! What a race, coming from virtually last, doing it all again like last weekend. Crazy conditions, survival mode all race. We were really on it, no mistakes. Today, I was in denial until the last pit stop, and then I heard we gapped Lewis, so I thought okay, breathing space—but then he was closing. The pressure was there, intense race, but we didn't crack. I was thinking he was going to give it all in front of his home crowd, but sorry guys, it is also my day!”
Max Verstappen had started from pole position, but he suffered a spin on Lap 21 after a race restart and dropped several positions. He managed to finish fifth. He was followed by Alpine’s Pierre Gasly in sixth and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll in seventh. George Russell, however, couldn’t do much in his home race and ended up 10th.
All that went wrong at the British Grand Prix
There were on-and-off visibility issues due to the rain, which led to some drivers hitting others on the track and facing penalties. The Safety Car made frequent appearances and resulted in changed strategies.
Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar was struggling with visibility and went on to hit Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes before crashing into the barrier. As a result, the Safety Car was brought out. Both eventually retired from the race.
