The Minnesota Timberwolves faced a frightening, however brief, moment early in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals when their franchise cornerstone, Anthony Edwards , appeared to suffer a significant ankle injury. In the high-octane clash, missing Edwards for the rest of the game would prove to be costly for the team, but thankfully, he made his return to the game.

Anthony Edwards briefly sparked concern for the Minnesota Timberwolves
There was under a minute remaining in the first quarter when Anthony Edwards drove through the lane and made contact with Thunder guard Alex Caruso, who was attempting to draw a charge. Edwards came down awkwardly, his right ankle rolling as he landed. He immediately grabbed his foot, and he was in discomfort.

Anthony Slater of The Athletic shared the update on X, “Anthony Edwards directly to the Timberwolves locker room during the timeout between the first and second quarter. Seemed to twist that right ankle on a late 1Q drive.”

Despite the pain, the All-Star guard remained in the game momentarily, sinking one of his two free throws. But once the buzzer sounded to end the quarter, Edwards walked into the locker room. His injury has sparked a huge concern among fans and analysts alike.

ESPN cameras captured him exiting the court and not reappearing at the start of the second quarter. Given Edwards' history of foot and ankle issues earlier this postseason, the Timberwolves were staring down what looked like a possible game-changing injury.

Edwards was jogging back through the tunnel at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. He warmed up briefly on the sidelines, doing light footwork during a timeout. With 7:01 left in the first half, he checked back into the game.

He didn't seem hampered physically. Within minutes of returning, Edwards pulled down a defensive rebound and then facilitated an assist to Julius Randle.

While Edwards was in the locker room, his teammates stepped up and maintained a slim lead, showing the kind of depth that could prove crucial in a tight series. By halftime, the Timberwolves were leading by 4 points with Julius Randle leading the scoreboard with 20 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.
