US President Donald Trump rejected claims by his 2024 presidential rival Kamala Harris in her new memoir, 107 Days, that he “privately praised her” during a phone call in which she conceded the election.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy, Trump said, “I didn’t call her that, but I was nice to her. I had met her a couple of times and was always nice to her.”
A New York Times review of Harris’ book cited alleged words from Trump: “I am going to be so nice and respectful. You are a tough, smart customer, and I say that with great respect. And you also have a beautiful name. I got use of that name, it’s Kamala.”
Commenting on Harris’ campaign, Trump added, “I thought Kamala would have done a better job than she did in terms of running, because we really won by a lot. And I thought she would have done better.”
Trump and his running mate JD Vance won both the popular vote and the electoral college vote in the November 5 election. Harris, the-then vice president, had been elevated as the Democratic Party’s US presidential nominee following Joe Biden’s decision not to seek a second term, announced on July 21—107 days before the election.
