After a tense weekend amid speculations that Dan Bongino would resign from the post of FBI's deputy director over his clash with Attorney General Pam Bondi, Bongino came to office Monday, CNN reported adding that his future at the FBI still remains uncertain.
Bongino had a heated meeting with Pam Bondi in the White House Wednesday. Reports said he stormed out of the meeting and then did ot go to his office for the rest of the week. He told his aides that he would resign if Pam Bondi was not fired. As Pam Bondi was far from being fired, and received praise from President Donald Trump, Bongino's resignation was highly expected over the weekend.
Trump fumes over Bongino, asks JD Vance to mediate
Trump was reportedly fuming over Bongino and Vice President JD Vance was asked to mediate between the sparring officials: Pam Bondi, Dan Bongino and Kash Patel.
Speculations were rife that Patel too would exit the FBI if Dan Bongino leaves but Patel said he would serve the president as long as Trump wants and is not going anywhere.
If Bongino continues in the post, it will be for the times being, insiders believe as his relationship with the White House has become strained after the Epstein drama.
“Dan Bongino is a very good guy. I’ve known him a long time. I’ve done his show many, many times. And he sounded terrific, actually, no, I think he’s in good shape," Donald Trump said about Bongino in public.
What is the Bondi versus Dan Bongino clash?
The clash is actually between the FBI and the DOJ over the handling of the Epstein case. FBI insiders claimed Patel and Bongino would have released the documents long before if they had the power. It implied that Pam Bondi dragged her feet over the release of the documents and then finally came up with nothing. The FBI wanted to release more information, while the DOJ did not allow that. After NewsNation reported this, Bongino and Patel were confronted about whether they were behind the story.
Outspoken Bongino was thought to be the person behind the story, but Bongino refused and stormed out of the meeting.
